Description Kirura Factory operates under the Komothai Farmers Cooperative Society, a well-established organization that today includes thirteen factories such as Riakahara, Gathiruini, and Kirura itself. Kirura began operations in 1988 and remains based in the Kiambaa Division of Kiambu County, within Kenya’s Central Highlands. The name Kiambu is thought to trace back to a Kikuyu clan, Mbari ya Mbuu, anchoring the factory in a region with deep cultural roots. Around 800 smallholder members deliver their harvests to Kirura, together managing approximately 400 hectares of coffee. Annual production is about 130 metric tons of cherries, which are processed centrally at the factory before entering Kenya’s auction and direct-sale systems. Kirura has built a reputation for high-quality output, with a large share of its coffee grading as AA and AB. It has also frequently placed among the top performers in Taste of Harvest competitions, underlining both the consistency of the Central Highlands terroir and the discipline of its members.
